With over 500,000 words written this year, I can’t help but have a smile on my face. What an amazing year it has been thanks to God and His wonder working power! It was just about a year ago (January 2015) when I left the world of “9-5” and entered into self-employment as an author. While I was not fully sure of what I was going to do when I said goodbye, I was sure of one thing. I was going to write. Leaving behind the world of cubicle walls, steady paychecks and meaningless small talk made me a bit nervous, but I began trusting God more than ever before in my life.
The interesting part was the fact I had no idea what I was going to stick with writing wise until May 2015. Before that point, from March 2013 until May 2015 I randomly published books ranging from self-help to sci-fi and even a little fantasy. It was all over the board and I was trying to find my niche, my home. Then when it hit me, I realized it was where I belonged from the beginning. Inspirational Christian fiction & romance can be found throughout all my work. The first book I published (Directional Thinking) was rooted with Biblical concepts and I was trying to help people. Then with the fiction I wrote early on (Chronicles of Kilix and Defiance) you can find Christian elements intertwined into the stories. All along the journey I was including God without really realizing it a whole lot. Then in May, I shifted and began making Him the center of it all. What a difference that made!
God started blessing me. By the end of the summer I was accepted into BookBub (Tap/Click to read story that explains BookBub). The next month after that, accepted into BookBub again. Now, at the end of 2015, I’m settled into my genre/niche that I will be in for the rest of my life.
Here’s what I released in 2015 (fiction)…
Solex (The Chronicles Of Kilix Book 3) 221 pages
Deliverance (Belstrom Chronicles Book 2) 150 pages
The Adventures of Peter and Sam 14 pages
The Perfect Cast 268 pages
Finding Love 172 pages
Claire’s Hope 327 pages
Dylan’s Faith 251 pages
Amongst the Flames 278 pages
Out of the Ashes 317 pages
Up in Smoke 350 pages
Love Again (rewrite) 113 pages
Total Words: 577,188
Goals for 2016
Going into the first half of the year I will be releasing a few standalone novels. There are a few stories I want to get down that don’t need to be in a series. After that, probably around summer time, I’ll be starting in on a new series. I’ll also be looking to revise and update some older works that I feel need polished due to my skills improving over time. There is also a possibility of signing with an agent in 2016, but there hasn’t been any decisions made thus far.
Here’s my tentative goals for 2016..
- Release at least 3 standalone novels
- Begin a series and get through at least book 5 of the series by end of the year
- Attend at least one writing event
This year has been an exciting ride and I’m looking forward to 2016! With over 600 subscribers on the mailing list and a never-ending list of book ideas, I’m sure 2016 will be amazing!
