    This was a thought provoking story. I think most Christians have something in the past that they allow to hinder what they can do in the present. The characters are likable and realistic. It is a sweet love story as well. It was a little more “preachy” than most of Mr. Chapin’s books, but it did not really detract from the story. Another good read from Mr. Chapin as I always expect!

    James Anderson is an addict. His past constantly rears its ugly head even when he is trying his best to follow God. He lives with the phrase…”Once an addict always an addict”. He wonders if anyone will ever see the change in him. He even finds that he must prove himself to his pastor Charlie time and time again.James wants so much to be a preacher that he is willing to even become a janitor at the Church on the Lake to prove his willingness to serve in any capacity. It is here he meets Faith who is to be preforming at the church’s youth music festival. Faith is recovering from a break up with her cheating fiancé. Two broken hearts are in great need of healing. As I read this book, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the scripture in Proverbs 22:6 (KJV) where it says …Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. That scripture must have been a comfort to James’ father as he watched his son self-destruct. It was sad he died before he was able to see his son return to God.Mr. Chapin weaves together events in the James’ life that shows our past transgressions will cause us to live in its shadow and without the comforting healing touch from our Heavenly Father it would be impossible to heal. He also shows how God can take something broken and use it for His Glory!James and Faith’s journey is filled with love, forgiveness, second chances.
